Dyan Chand the “Pitama”
of Indian Hockey is once again denied the Bharat Ratna the highest civilian
award of India. It was a sad day when people across the nation experienced the
26th January parade while the highest award was given to randomly
selected people, former President of India Parnab Mukherjee, Bhupen Hazarika singer from Assam and Nanaji
Deshmukh a social activist.
The problem starts when the announcement was made during the General Election beginning
from April and the above mentioned three candidates were selected for the
civilian award. This is just another publicity stunt from the Modi government
who is thinking of winning another term of office in a row. There was no need
for the award but if it was so, then why deny Dyan Chand who rejected an offer
made by Adolf Hitler from becoming a citizen of Germany. Under his belt India
crushed Germany in its hometown by 8 to 1 and 3 goals were single handily
scored by the legend Dyan Chand.
Adolf Hitler was frustrated by the performance of Germany
team and in the midway he left the play. Later, the dictator of Germany
returned to offer Dyan Chand a high post in the German army. But the patriotic
hockey legend politely refused the post and returned. Today, after 83 years of
this historic event we Indians ignored the sacrifice and patriotism of the legendary
hockey player and are looking forward to give away Bharat Ratna award to
anyone. How can someone randomly select people for the highest civilian award
when they are many deserving people who shed their sweat and hard labor for the
country. Well, at the end the award given on such auspicious day is yet another
publicity stunt done by Modi. I hope people will open up with a broader mind
and take the initiative to the turn the pages of history and look for real
heroes who died for India.
